here. >> take a look at that. intense flames destroy two cars in oakland. it happened about three hours ago on 64th avenue not far from international boulevard. fire crews tell us the flames were so hot that the fire actually cracked the windows of a nearby building. nobody was injured. no word on a possible cause. 11 people forced from their homes. one of the victims, a little kitten almost didn't make it out of the burning apartment building. look at that. firefighters using a tiny oxygen mask to help the kitten breathe. it started at an apartment complex before 3:00 this morning. three apartments were damaged. no one was hurt and that kitten is expected to be just fine. >> cat's going to be okay. >> bernie sanders is hoping for

nine lives. voters start heading to the polls here. it is primary day. it is a historic turning point in the race for the white house. >> nbc news reports hillary clinton reached the magic number of delegates to be considered the presumptive democratic nominee. kris sanchez joins us. what is bernie sanders saying? >> he says the delegate count might indicate the democratic presidential primary is over. californians still need to get out to vote. both sides urging that right now. you talked about that nomination number that is 2,383 to clinch the nomination. clinton is one delegate over that as of this morning. bernie sanders has 1,566 delegates but says that because that count is super delegates, hillary clinton does not have

the lead. he blames the media. either way those superdelegates do not have to commit until the july 25th democratic national convention. until then, they could go either way. at this point, clinton still leads the count in committed delegates. the popular vote and some super delegates who decided which way they will go. clinton, sanders urging californians to vote today. >> we have the most important primary. the people of california have the right to determine who is going to be president of the united states. >> we are going to fight hard for every single vote, especially right here in california. >> sanders is vowing to stay in the race until the convention. hillary clinton wants to turn her focus to donald trump. bernie sanders talks about the super delegates and how they could change. in 2008 when hillary clinton was

leader cesar chavez. she died yesterday in bakersfield surrounded by family members at the age of 88. >> if it wasn't for her, cesar wouldn't have been able to do any of his work. >> he organized as she tended to the family. helen is the one who helped keep the movement together during cesar chavez' hunger strike. >> she was right there as a steadfast foundation to keep him going and she never wavered. united farm workers saying, helen used her fierce determination to help change the lives of thousands of farm workers and millions of others who are inspired by la causa." >> prosecutors filed a slew of charges against a man accused of

keeping police at bay in a tense standoff in san francisco. this drama unfolded on friday. police ended up using bean bags to subdue the subject. he now faces multiple felony charges. a five-hour long standoff when someone reported an intruder in their home. he took past police, jumped through a neighboring building and fell through a skylight and ended up in hair salon with the arrest pursued. san ramon police are hoping someone will recognize the voice of an armed robbery suspect. >> open the cash register. >> the suspect put a gun to the cashier's head and robbed the shell gas station. a gray four-door sedan similar to a toyota corolla may have been involved in the robbery.

police are looking for three men they believe were casing a san bruno home. surveillance cameras captured images of the men. they are convinced the three were dropped off near a home they planned to rob, but the homeowner showed up. a fourth person in a white honda circled by, picked up the three men then took off. >> santa clara county leaders will meet today to dot the is and cross the ts on a bidding process to redevelop fairgrounds. they are considering options to create new fairgrounds that may include a community park, sports complex, performing arts venue. many possibles are still on the table. supervisors are expected to vote on a final version two weeks from now. >> metallica rocking the shark

martin shkreli says he's not guilty of fraud. >> the biotech bad boy walked out of court on monday. he behaved himself. >> much to our surprise. maybe we were disappointed, too. shkreli is the biotech ceo who raised the price of a critical anti-parasitic drug by something like 5,000%. he was charged with fraud in a separate case. monday in court he pleaded not guilty to those charges. he's out on bail. as you can see, he walked past cameras. he kept his expression neutral. he was next to his lawyer who has been pleading with him to stop making fun of the prosecutors. after court, shkreli would go into a dunkin' donuts where he says he brings all his dates. he went on periscope on twitter. >> i just came back from court. it went great. the judge slapped the government again, so -- thanks.

of those temperatures making it into the mid 60s in the mission district, financial district 65 today. high pressure kept it hot and sunny. area of low pressure moves in. it won't bring rain. it's well to the north of us. we will have a strong enough onshore flow to help bring back our temperatures, if only for a couple of days before it starts to ramp right back up. looking at walnut creek up to 85. friday 77. that will be the coolest day then look at sunday up to 90. this is what is expected this weekend. sunday is looking hot. after a mild start to the weekend, we will have some of those inland areas in the north bay as well as south bay hitting

slide died. he was hospitalized yesterday for undisclosed reasons. he became famous in the mid 2000s thanks to a series of backyard fights that went viral. he was scheduled to fight next july 16th. he was only 42 years old. dignitaries from around the world are making their way to muhammed ali's hometown to pay their final respects to the man who transcended sports and influenced the lives of millions. >> tracie potts is live in washington, d.c. former president bill clinton is expected to give the eulogy on friday. >> he will. we'll hear from billy crystal and bryant gumbel, ali's wife and oldest daughter, the president of turkey expected to be here with other celebrities and dignitaries. will smith who played ali in the movie by his name, and we are going to see a number of different ministers from different faiths.

of a crime for the assault of a woman behind a dumpster at stanford campus. >> bob redell is live at stanford. is there a petition to remove the judge in the case. >> there is a movement to remove superior county judge aaron persky from the bench. 250,000 people signed a change.org petition demanding his removal. that's more than triple the number of people from yesterday. after months of refusing to do so, law enforcement for the first time has released brock turner's mug shot from the day of his arrest back in january of 2015 they released the mug shot taken last week after his sentencing. it was on thursday that judge persky, foreman captain of the stanford lacrosse team sentenced the 23-year-old turner, a former star of the stanford swim team to six months in jail and three-year probation of the

sexual assault of a 22-year-old woman outside the fraternity house. he could have faced ten years in prison. he could be out on probation in as little as three months. >> will be like a little blink in his life and for this woman, it's a lifetime of grief. >> six months is not enough for something that serious. >> in a powerful letter to the judge which has gone viral, the victim urged the court for a strict sentencing saying in part, "you took away my worth, my privacy, my energy, my time, my safety, my intimacy, my confidence, my own voice until today." in turner's defense his father wrote a letter to the judge saying incarceration was not an appropriate punishment for, quote, 20 minutes of action." brock turner is appealing his conviction. bob redell, today in the bay. >> thank you very much. an alarming crime in the

east bay where a 12-year-old boy was stabbed several times in the back while he was simply waiting for a family member inside a san leandro bank. an update on the little boy's condition and charges the suspect faces. >> reporter: that boy is in stable condition but when it comes to the suspect 32-year-old iona hammond she was charged with assault with a deadly weapon. those charges have changed to attempted murder. that's because of a number of factors. they are telling us it's because of the severity of the boy's injuries and the fact the stabbing was unprovoked. hammond faces second degree robbery charges and is being held at jail. it was at a wells fargo bank east 14th. hammond walked into the customer service area and stabbed a 12-year-old boy from behind with pair of scissors as the boy was sitting in a lounge chair waiting for family members. hammond demanded cash from the

bank and customers robbing at least one person. she tried to run away from the scene and at the time of the arrest she was holding the scissors she used to stab the 12-year-old boy. >> i can only imagine what the boy is going through, the shock, the scare. >> that boy was in town visiting family, according to police. he remains in stable condition but will need surgery. hammond will be arraigned tomorrow afternoon at the hayward hall of justice. >> 6:35shgs gun shot wound not the fire is what killed a man accused of shooting two police officers last week. he died from a self-inflicted gun shot wound. he shot two police officers after a traffic stop last wednesday before hiding in a fremont home where he was soon surrounded by s.w.a.t. teams. fire broke out after officers

shot tear gas inside the home. two officers are still hospitalized. one remains in critical condition. >> anger over multiple freeway shootings that sent five east bay mayors directly to sacramento demanding action. they hope a camera crackdown will put an end to crime scenes like these. chp is blaming mostly gangs for that violence. mayors want surveillance cameras on 80 and highway 4 with license plate readers and shot spotter technology. >> we are local officials so we don't have say-so over the state freeway. what we can do is what we are doing today. >> yesterday's meeting with the governor staff is the first step in bringing state law makers onboard. mayors wanted $50,000 to pay for the roadway. >> san francisco supervisors hold a hearing on modified city laws. last month they approved a

sanctuary city policy. it bars law enforcement from notifying federal agents when an undocumented immigrant is being released from custody. it gives new sheriff wider discretion to notify agents under certain circumstances. the amended measure prohibits use of city funds in the an enforcement of federal immigration law. >> this might sound familiar. have you had your car stolen in the bay area? you are not alone. the bay area is among the top regions in the nation for theft. san francisco had more than 30,000 car thefts last year. san francisco had the most thefts a year before. who is number one? that belongs to modesto. seven other california regions find themselves in the top ten. that includes stockton, lodi, vallejo and fairfield. 6:37. the fight to contain flames continues this morning. a strike team from the south bay

is joining in that fight. the coleman fire is about 15% contained but has grown to 2300 acres. the fire is burning in the los padres national forest. it started fire and spread quickly because of strong wind gusts and hot temperatures. more than 120 homeowners evacuated so far. this is one of six large fires burning across the state. california is doing well when it comes to conserving for the drought. water resources control board announced the average household used 77,000 gallons of water per day in april. that compares to 104 gallons used by people in april 2013 before california ordered mandatory water cutbacks. state officials are lifting the mandatory conservation order for water districts to prove they have enough water if the drought lasts another three years.

vandal who tried to firebomb the kardashians"d authorities in southern california are looking for the vandals who tried to fire bomb the kardashian's dash store located on trendy melrose avenue. late last night someone heaved a molotov cocktail through the window. the fire didn't spread and no one was in the store at the time. > vandalism in the grand canyon, vandals spray pointed over a rock. park rangers released these photos of the graffiti. it says evans 16. this couple walking away from the rock could be responsible. it's the third vandal incident in recent months. earlier this year, actress

vanessa hudgeons had to pay a $1,000 fine carving into a truck. law makers are considering reworking tsa operations to improve passenger screening and wait time. tsa administrators and the department of homeland security inspector general will be questioned. bay area airports could do worse. researchers crunched the numbers and found 85 u.s. commercial airports where flights have been delayed an average of 15 minutes. no bay area airport landed in the bottom ten, all three did make the list. sfo ranked 17th in the number of flights delayed. oakland was close behind at 20. baltimore finished worst with 23% of flights delayed. one of the big questions in the presidential race is how much does donald trump make? >> he's the only presidential candidate to not turn over his

income tax records in modern political history. that has a lot of people looking for evidence. >> they found crane's business discovered trump takes a $300 tax credit on his property tax for the penthouse he owns atop the trump towers. that's his primary home. that tax credit is available to people who make less than $500,000 a year. crane's asked trump's campaign about it. why does a billionaire take a tax credit open to people who make less than $500,000 a year? a city tax representative said it was a mistake, but that same tax credit just showed up on his property taxes again this year. this time the trump campaign says the tax credit was once again an error. trump did turn over financial data to journalists last month. it was a list of trump businesses and the income they make not accounting for expense.

we've seen a little relief from the heat now. >> we are on this roller coaster. we start out with hot weather, it cools down. we are in that. this morning we are feeling slightly cooler temperatures. we have more clouds and fog. more sunshine later on today. let's go above the clouds. we get the view from mount hamilton. clouds covering all the south bay. if you want to see the sunrise, we are seeing that there. temperatures in the low 60s and peninsula, 58 in san francisco as we drop in on the east bay. we get a closer look. 57 in livermore and sunol as well as dublin. walnut creek at 56. opening up the picture, we have the biggest headline for the east coast, tropical storm colin. this is a large system. a lot of clouds well to the east

of that. we are not seeing a lot of this affect the east coast from north carolina. that system continues to move away from land. it dumped a lot of rain over florida. this will not be an issue as it continues to race off north and east. we are looking at more of this dry weather. temperatures up to 82 in los gatos. redwood city 78. emba emba embarkadaro 68. area of low pressure moving closer and knocking back the heat we had to deal with. it starts to feel better yesterday. that trend continues at least through the end of the week. this will give us a stronger onshore flow before high pressure moves in by sunday to bring temperatures back up. looking at low 80s today and tomorrow. san francisco will be in the mid 60s. 70s for the north bay as well as

east bay. tri-valley seeing temperatures come down. looking at the weekend, starts out nice with 60s in san francisco, 70s elsewhere, but then take a look at sunday. 92 in the north bay. 90 in the south bay. it will be heating up once again. still going up and down with these temperatures all across the bay. let's head over to anthony and see what's happening. >> south bay has been up and down. traffic ebbs and flows then piling back up. looking at slow spots 101 northbound san jose slowing. it does improve once you get past 87. we are starting to see slowing there. 101 does start to improve. 85 with that approach in
